Today, a group of our volunteers gathered at Cordwood Beach to enhance their ice and water rescue skills. For many of our newer members, this was their first experience with such training.

Motor Vehicle vs Pole

At 1436 hours this afternoon, the St. James Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident (MVA) involving an SUV vs a pole on Hillside Avenue. While avoiding something in the road the driver briefly lost control and struck the pole.

Upon arrival, Assistant Chief Dave Mills found that the pole had been snapped, with wires obstructing the road.

Historic Hotel Fire 1962

A little history from 62 years ago, 12/31/62.

The St James Hotel, also known as Moore’s Hotel, was situated on Lake Avenue, on the corner of Lake Ave and Railroad Ave, across from the old Blue Jay Market. At the time of the fire, the building was 58 years old, having been constructed in 1904.

Residential Structure Fire

On Saturday afternoon at approximately 1:40 PM, we received a call regarding a residential structure fire on Cambon Ave. Upon our arrival, we encountered a fully involved fire, with flames consuming the entire south side of the house and extending to the garage.
