It’s been a busy few weeks at the St. James Fire Department. On Wednesday, June 11, members trained in Yaphank on "Taxpayer" structures, which mimic commercial residential buildings with commercial spaces on the ground floor and offices or apartments above.

On June 18, they practiced skills for fighting vehicle fires, which now present unique challenges due to new technologies.

This past Sunday, the St. James Fire Department Juniors hosted a food drive in front of King Kullen on Lake Avenue.

Thanks to our incredible community, the event was a tremendous success, resulting in two pickup trucks filled with food and $300 in cash donations, all for the Smithtown Food Pantry.

Last week, the St. James Elementary School celebrated First Responder Week. Police, firefighters and EMS responders visited classrooms to speak to the students and talk about how they keep our community safe.

Last night at our annual inspection and elections, Marty Thompson was honored for his 50 years of active service with the St James Volunteer Fire Department. Marty was voted into membership in January of 1975. He has worn many hats in his 50 years including but not limited to Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Chief and President of the Department.
