During emergencies, the Chief of the Department, along with the Assistants is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the department. The job of the Chief is to coordinate the efforts of all members responding to alarms and manage the operations of mutual aid fire departments that respond alongside them.
The Chief also collaborates with the Board of Fire Commissioners to ensure that all resources are readily available and prepared for any emergency. This includes ongoing training for members, recruiting new personnel, and ensuring that all equipment is in optimal condition and ready for immediate deployment.
The Chiefs serve as the Emergency Response Operating Managers of the Department, overseeing all activities and operations involving both personnel and vehicles, with the support of the Company Officers.
