At 1436 hours this afternoon, the St. James Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident (MVA) involving an SUV vs a pole on Hillside Avenue. While avoiding something in the road the driver briefly lost control and struck the pole.
Upon arrival, Assistant Chief Dave Mills found that the pole had been snapped, with wires obstructing the road. Fortunately, the driver had exited the vehicle without any injuries and refused transport to the hospital.
Engine 432, Rescue 9, and Ambulance 436-B secured the scene. The road is temporarily closed, and power is out in the area while PSE&G begins repairs. At 1513 hours all responding apparatus were back in service.
