March 26, 2025, 17:51 hours**: The Nissequogue, St. James, Smithtown, Hauppauge and Nesconset Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a house fire at 7 Smith Lane in Nissequogue. A resident on Landing Avenue reported seeing heavy black smoke in the area. A second caller, who was on the scene, confirmed that flames were visible in the basement and mentioned they were searching for a small dog that was believed to in the basement Upon arrival, units discovered a fast moving fire in the basement of a large two-story home, which was spreading quickly to the upper floors. Multiple lines were stretched into the structure and all visible fire was knocked down by 1930 hours. The St James Fire Department responded with 2 engines, a brush truck and an ambulance.
Thanks to the Ronkonkoma Fire Department’s Squad 6 Engine and their Chief for standing by at our Station, to protect our town while we were operating at the scene.
