On Saturday, November 29th, the St. James Fire Department held its 103rd Annual Installation of Line and Desk Officers at Flowerfield Catering. We were honored to welcome many chiefs from neighboring departments, as well as local politicians who consistently support our mission.

It was a tragic day on Sunday.

At 3:15 pm The St James Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to a residential fire @ 178 Fifty Acre Rd South. A mother and son fell victim to the flames and smoke and a 3rd resident was transported to Stony Brook with smoke inhalation and burns.

The first to arrive were Asst Chief O'Connell from St James and Asst Chief Capogna from the Nesconset FD.

Last week, members of the St. James Fire Department visited local schools to educate children about fire safety and emergency preparedness.

The kids asked insightful questions about how our volunteers work diligently to protect them and the entire community.

Yesterday evening at the St. James 9/11 Memorial, a service was held to honor those lost on that fateful day, as well as for those who have since left us due to health related issues at the Trade Center.

It’s been a busy few weeks at the St. James Fire Department. On Wednesday, June 11, members trained in Yaphank on "Taxpayer" structures, which mimic commercial residential buildings with commercial spaces on the ground floor and offices or apartments above.

On June 18, they practiced skills for fighting vehicle fires, which now present unique challenges due to new technologies.
