March 26, 2025, 17:51 hours**: The Nissequogue, St. James, Smithtown, Hauppauge and Nesconset Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a house fire at 7 Smith Lane in Nissequogue. A resident on Landing Avenue reported seeing heavy black smoke in the area. Always Training

Today, a group of our volunteers gathered at Cordwood Beach to enhance their ice and water rescue skills. For many of our newer members, this was their first experience with such training.

At 1436 hours this afternoon, the St. James Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident (MVA) involving an SUV vs a pole on Hillside Avenue. While avoiding something in the road the driver briefly lost control and struck the pole.

Upon arrival, Assistant Chief Dave Mills found that the pole had been snapped, with wires obstructing the road.

A little history from 62 years ago, 12/31/62.

The St James Hotel, also known as Moore’s Hotel, was situated on Lake Avenue, on the corner of Lake Ave and Railroad Ave, across from the old Blue Jay Market. At the time of the fire, the building was 58 years old, having been constructed in 1904.
